I ordered the Radiant Cookbook after attending a talk by the author at a local wellness festival. I have been enjoying reading through this cookbook, as it is much more than just recipes. As someone who is learning how to make plant-based eating part of my lifestyle, I have found this book to be highly educational. There are chapters on ingredients, kitchen equipment, nutrients, and lifestyle tips. The book is well-organized by category, so it is easy to follow, and the end even includes a useful index of links to specific products for easier sourcing of ingredients or kitchen tools. While some of the recipes seem quite in depth, they are very approachable after attempting for the first time. I can't wait to start experimenting in the kitchen with so many ingredients that are new to me!

This is a beautiful cookbook - artfully laid out and with vibrant photography. The vibrancy of the photos is thanks to the fresh and alive ingredients used throughout the recipes, with a focus on raw foods. Delicious recipes along with easy-to-follow teachings about specific foods and their benefits. This book is for anyone who wants simple and delicious ways to use food as medicine.

To fully embrace the recipes included in this creative cookbook,you will need a dehydrator, Bragg's Amino Liquid & Nutritional yeast.These are items commonly used in vegan meals so if you are, you most likely have them.If you're not vegan (I'm vegetarian, cook for meat lovers, do not have above items) and this book still works.Of the few recipes I tried with what was in my house, instruction & measurements were clear, tasty and,easy to adapt to available ingredients & temperatures.*Some Quick Tips~If you don't have nutritional yeast, or don't know what it is, it's dried flakes that taste like cheese.Almost textured like shredded parmesan with nutritional benefits for a protein lacking diet.If you are not vegan, you can substitute actual cheese bc Nutritional yeast is not cheap.Also, I took a pass on the edible flowers as garnish.They are about $20 for a small package, don't last long & taste like flour.Any herb like basil, thyme, dill, even parsley, will work just fine if you must garnish.I added my own kitchen knowledge to adapt to my tastes.Such as Lasagna Primavera. This is a raw recipe that should sit overnight to marinate.I wanted a warmed, veggie packed lasagna so popped it in the oven at 325 for about 25 min.It was soooo good. Don't think cold would've worked for me or the meat lovers.My additional adjustments were, I used raw cashews instead of macadamia for the herb ricotta.I use raw cashews quite a bit so had them in the house.My fave artichoke dip uses them & blows away any recipe, even for meat lovers.The tomato marinara recipe seemed a bit odd with dates & honey but it worked.Also, the zucchini noodles I've made again on their own.So simple with lemon, oil & salt & really yummy.The Papaya Lime salad was a big hit in our house.Tasted like one we get from our fave Thai restaurant.Also did the mermaid bowl but added blueberries instead of blue green algae.*Spoiler~ it has coconut. Mmmm.While this is a book for non meat, raw food lovers that, is disguised to appeal to your vanity with beauty secret recipes.It's very well researched, written & a good stepping stone for piqued interest in this lifestyle.However, I'm going to be brutally honest, healthy is not easy.It's time consuming & requires commitment.It's much easier to drive through or pop dinner in a microwave than to chop veggies.Start on a weekened when you feel fresh & choose a large portion recipe you can cut off for weekday lunch.It can be done.If you're feeling run down, tired & old,think of the old adage," You are what you eat" and,take some baby steps to feel pretty inside..Maybe the pretty pictures in Ms Leite's book will inspire you.Good Luck

I have mixed feelings about this book. The first 50 pages are filled with good information about "radiant eating" and contain lots of info about various ingredients. The book is gorgeous with full-page photos facing the recipes. I have no doubt that the food is delicious. The ingredient lists are rather daunting, though, either in their uniqueness and/or cost. For example, a breakfast bowl called "Glow Bowl," which I am sure is delicious and healthy, contains lucuma powder, mesquite powder, maca powder, and reishi powder among its 12 ingredients. Plus two of the ingredients are other recipes from the book: 1 cup Spiced Cold Brew (a 6-ingredient recipe elsewhere in the book that contains dried rose petals) and 1/4 cup Tropical Matcha Granola (a 15-ingredient recipe). So as appetizing as the Glow Bowl--with its 31 ingredients--looks and sounds, that recipe is not happening at my house. I did see some recipes that sounded and looked good without sending me on an ingredient scavanger hunt : Mango and Avocado Ceviche--a 13-ingredient recipe. But realistically, I don't see myself utilizing this book very often, no matter how wonderful the results.

While the book starts off in a well balanced manner, shattering the laughable modern myths regarding the "unprovoked" nature of the crusade, the West's so called "backwardness" in the Middle Ages and highlights the fact that the Islamic progress was due largely to partially assimilated cultures, many of which were ultimately destroyed, I feel that it really does abandon its objectivity towards the end.The first crusade is presented well, the background, the warriors, the journey, the battles and the outcome are all well documented and the fact that the crusaders basically applied the standard policy of the age at Jerusalem ( just like Saladin did a few years later) really sheds some objective light on this fascinating period. The book presents some other little known facts like the admiration of certain Muslim writers towards the way justice was served in a fair manner in the crusader kingdoms, the military superiority of the West alongside the agricultural advancements of the so called "Dark Ages" that ensured that westerners ate better food than any other group of people at that time.The highlight of the book, ironically, is not the presentation of the crusades but the background and the causes. For some reason, the downright cretinous claims of Voltaire and others who said that Islam was received with enthusiasm in the conquered areas are still popular in the West today. While the Balkan countries, Poland, Hungary still have plenty of reminders of hundreds of years of oppression, raids, child slaves and sex slaves at the hands of the Ottoman Empire, the moronic claims of certain 17th-18th century writers which were living in the most rich and advanced societies in the history of mankind and were surrounded by flourishing arts and sciences but for some reason wanted to ridicule those very societies by raising Islam on a pedestal...these claims still have traction today, and for this reason, books like this one are very healthy.Towards the end, as mentioned above, the book unfortunately abandons its myth shattering purpose and objective attitude and becomes fully apologetic.The 4th crusade in particular is presented as some sort of an accident where the crusaders were placed in an impossible situation and, despite the fact that they didn't want to, they 'had' to sack the most advanced and rich city of the time...no mention of the fact the Venetians basically had been waiting for any excuse to raid Constantinople for a long time. The book mentions the low body count but conveniently ignores the fact that it was the greatest robbery of the age if we consider the total amount of loot that was carried away and ended up in Venice and other places. The book also fails to mention that the Church excommunicated a lot of people after this crusade...No mention of the dubious Northern Crusades or any of the subsequent degenerations of the original idea behind the crusading, the corruption of certain Knight Orders and of the fact that basically that very 4th crusade alongside the Zara fiasco basically ended the age of the knight wars and the beginning of the mercenary age in Europe. This made me drop a few stars off the score...but as mentioned above, it's still a healthy read.

This book is a good beginning history of why Christians first went to fight in the Crusades.On November 27, 1095, Pope Urban II gave a speech graphically detailing the torture, rape, and murder of Christian pilgrims and the defilement of churches and holy places committed by the Turks. “They destroy the altars, after having defiled them with their uncleanness. They circumcise the Christians, and the blood of the circumcision they pour into the vases of the baptismal font...They torture people...by perforating their navels, and dragging forth the extremity of the intestines, bind it to a stake; then with flogging they lead the victim around until the viscera having gushed forth the victim falls prostrate on the ground...What shall I say about the abominable rape of women? To speak of it is worse than to be silent. On whom therefore is the labor of avenging these wrongs and recovering this territory incumbent, if not upon you?”This is the traditional explanation of how and why the First Crusade begun. Alexius Comnenus, the emperor of Byzantium, had written from his embattled capital of Constantinople to the Count of Flanders, requesting that he and his fellow Christians send forces to help the Byzantines repel the Seljuk Turks. These were recent converts to Islam who had invaded the Middle East, ambushed Christian pilgrims to the Holy Land, captured Jerusalem, and driven to within one hundred miles of Constantinople.This book counters more recent criticism that the long-ago crusades are helping to fuel modern Islamic fury. Not true. The author shows how Muslim antagonism about the Crusades did not appear until about 1900, when there was a reaction against the decline of the Ottoman Empire and against European colonialism in the Middle East. Anti-crusader feelings did not become intense until after the founding of the state of Israel in 1948.A very well-written and highly researched book.

I am sure that the author got tired of hearing undocumented and illogical arguments surrounding the Crusades and finally sat down and compiled arguments from the actually sources left to us.Sources: Stark pulls from sources during the Crusades until today. He sites all the popular authors on the Crusades, both from the West and Muslim world. He does so thoroughly and coherently. (I think I actually found a sentence without a footnote somewhere in there!)Agreement: I greatly appreciated reading this alternate view of the Crusades. The truth is that the Crusades were not bloodless, gentle, nor fair - on either side. But that does not mean that they were colonialistic, one-sided, brutal offensive on a peace-loving Muslim populace.Personal App: When people bring to the conversation arguments about the Crusades and why ISIS cannot be blamed for their horrific violence, I can now say, “Yes, about those Crusades…””Favorite Quote: “To sum up the prevailing wisdom: during the Crusades, an expansionist, imperialistic Christendom brutalized, looted, and colonized a tolerant and peaceful Islam. I really like this book! It’s to be read, and re-read to children who either are or are not excited about gardening. This story will motivate everyone. Yes, it usually starts with a plant :-) Truly inspirational for children of all ages!

This is such a cute and accurate book on to the learning of becoming gardeners. There is so much to learn and how 'toos'. This book is adorably illustrated and very enjoyable

This is a great book for children. It not only talks about how to grow plants, but it also dips its toes into trying again when you aren't successful the first time. I loved the illustrations. It would be a great book for any child. My granddaughter will find a copy in her Easter basket from me this year! I received this ARC from Netgalley--thank you to Netgalley and the publisher. The information in this book is no longer the standard in some cases

Very well written. It was a pleasure to read it through. You will read and hear different opinions but that’s the hobby, right? It for sure is a great starting point.

Very informative book for someone who is considering a saltwater aquarium.

Good information for beginners, however lacking in some areas. I would have appreciated more indepth coral information and possibly even some example aquarium setups. As in an arrangement of corals and fish for beginners. I know, i'm just knitpicking, but it would have been a nice addition.

I bought this book because I got tired of researching the net for certain critters for my tank and issues I had with the internet it was a constant back and forth, what works for some may not work for otheres scenario.This book was no more of the back and forth trying to find what works and what doesn't.

good book for beginners. Some items are a little stale but it is important to understand Saltwater terms and processes. I recommend the book.

This is a very good starting point for salt water aquariums. I would like to see more info on refugiums and hospital/quarantine tanks as they appear to be mandatory. I wish I had a PhD in plumbing too

His bitter melon recipes toughed a taste point in my memories that hasn't been satisfied for a long time - I have purchased bitter melon seeds and plan on some interesting experiments this coming summer, Chinese wokked ones as well. For you without access, Galangal, tumeric, and ginger m ay be grown down to high zone if they are not available. His way of making coconut milk is different than i have done many times. Mine: finely grate and press fresh coconut flesh and press. Allow to sit in a bowl and the cream will rise to the top. . No preparration should intimade anyone here, if they can find the ingrediants. If you like Thai cooking and its preparation intimidates you, here is a place to break through.

I've been trying to get my husband off gluten for a long time and now with congee for breakfast rather than cereal I think he'll be much happier. I can't thank you enough for this giant leap forward for healthy cooking and the freedom and creativity involved helps the heart, too. I love this cookbook. It's almost more like a self-help book on steroids.

I just bought this book and can't wait to try it. The hard part will be to find some of the ingredients like fresh lemon grass and galangal but finding these things organic will be easier on Amazon.
