I am only a chapter into this book but can already tell that it is well written and that much research and knowledge has been put into it. I am a Westerner who was raised Christia, but found myself drawn into Eastern religion in search of answers left by Christianity. I discovered that HInduism resonated with me, and ended up meeting and falling in love with a Hindu man. I flew to India to marry him and ended up living there for 14 months. Being emersed within the culture further intrigued me and drove my desire to learn more about the gods, particularly the ones I found myself most drawn to, which are Ganesh and Hanuman. My husband tells me stories that he learned throughout his upbringing, but they are often confusing when hearing bits and pieces at random times. So I purchased Hanuman: The Devotion and Power of the Monkey God by Vanamali Devi. It is exactly what I was hoping for. It explains so much without feeling biased. She points out that there are variations in beliefs depending on the type of followers and the areas of India. However, despite these differences, there is a unified, mutual depiction of what Hanuman stands for throughout India. I think my husband will admire this book. I am so grateful to have found such a wonderful book, written in very good English, that allows Westerners to be included in the stories of Hanuman and other deities. Especially since most original writings throughout history have been in Sanskrit and other languages, or just passed down through word of mouth. With authors like Vanamali, more and more Westerners will be able to embrace Hinduism and find answers they have long sought after.

this book, like others written by the author, mixes both story and spiritual teachings to convey the basic message of Hanuman's story. I've found this book, as well as others by this author, to help the reader find the substance to the "teachings" which are often hidden within more convoluted tellings by doing so in a very human, and caring way.of Vanamali's books, this is my favorite for personal reasons, but overall, for those wishing to learn the meaning behind the stories, Vanamali does a really good job, and I wholeheartedly recommend her books to people who are curious about the various topics which Vanamali has covered in her books.

I am so pleased I got this book. It tells the tale of Hanuman in service to Ram when the demon king Ravana kidnapped Ram's consort, Sita. The story is meant to convey how, like Sita, we are separated from the Divine ground of our being by the passions and misunderstandings of our small ego (Ravana) and how we are reconnected by love and devotion, qualities which Hanuman embodies. Hanuman is the link between our physical being and our Divine being, and that connection is always at work to bring conscious awareness to our lives.As a devotee of Hanuman, I recommend this retelling of the story, found in the Ramayana. It is easy to read and helps open the heart of true seekers, which is what these stories were always meant to do. Enjoy.

An excellent read, I was used to Ramanaya as a kid when growing up as a story, but this book helped get a different perspective on things and events.

Those Hindu stories are full of amazing out of the box happenings. I am enjoying learning Hanuman's story.

I hadn't particularly intended to read the Ramayana, but Vanamali's lovely book took me through it - focusing of its selfless hero, Hanuman. This is a wonderful telling of the story and so many curious aspects are included, most valuablly the esoteric inner meanings of some of the demons that Hanuman and Rama are up against. E.g. that Kumbakarna is "tamas" (sloth) embodied while Ravana represents the insatiable appetite of "rajas"(passion/addiction).It's also interesting that sections are according to the Valmiki original that aren't popularly told in India. This book is a treat for those who would like to understand all the characters from the Ramayana - the demons, the heroes - and of course especially for those who would like to understand Lord Hanuman better.(Please Vanamali - put more of your books on Kindle!)

This is my favorite book by this author. Very beautiful. Unfortunately I bought 4 more of her books (thinking they also would be wonderful) and they were not at all. This one though is magic.

What an amazing journey! I lived with a Grey back in the mid 70's, wish I had know more about parrots at the time. I was a teen just out of high school, dad bought him because he always wanted one. Romeo (who later became Juliet 4 years later when she laid eggs) was creative and playful. And I've learned since then that she loved me, I didn't understand her behavior fully, there was no internet back then so i had to surmise her actions were positive towards me. She too liked to play games, such as the time I had just installed a smoke detector in the hallway outside my bathroom. her cage was about 10 feet away in the kitchen but in view of that hallway. I was in the shower when the detector went off, i was home alone. I panicked and jumped out of the shower and went into the hallway where the alarm was not going off. I was perplexed until about a minute later. Juliet imitated the alarm and followed that up with a laugh! It took her one day to learn the sound and she thought it was funny that I reacted! Smart bird. There are more things that she did too. I miss her. Thanks for taking the time to write this book, it brought back memories while learning about the intelligence, which we know better today exists in all living creatures.

Great story about a remarkable bird. The author's relationship with Alex is heartwarming and winningly told. The things she and Alex accomplished are amazing. I liked how well she treated her birds and that she makes clear these intelligent creatures should not be left alone as solitary pets. Her research changed the way people think about birds. After reading this I watched Alex videos on YouTube.

I loved Alex from the moment that he was introduced in the story. I had the good fortune of seeing Alex on a television show many many years ago, and he grabbed my imagination and my heart right from the start. I was so proud of you Irene M. Pepperberg, for proving how brilliant even the smallest little animals are in captivity and in the wild. I grew up on a farm believing and knowing that the cats, dogs, and livestock were so much more than the visual sum of their parts--which is also why I mourned them whenever livestock were sold at market, or was sympathetic and sad when any of the animals got hurt or died unexpectedly.You and your Alex, set the whole scientific world on it's ear with your combined mental prowess. Nothing could ever be the same again. Phooey on humans being the dominant species, or belittling exceptionally bright animals for doing something miraculous as being, "just a lucky happenstance." They really are quite brilliant and extraordinary. You were glorious, and Alex was glorious, and the world once more had mysteries to explore, solve, and celebrate. You erased the boundaries, and saved us by giving us back a certain amount of magic, and miracles, mysteries, and a renewed reverence and appreciation for of all of God's creatures here on Earth.I wondered since seeing you both on television, what had become of you both. I imagined that you were both still shattering all of those stuffy scientific journalistic boundaries, with pizzazz and moxie, and reaping accolades, awards, and worldwide fame and recognition for your work. Interesting story about a scientist and the parrot who touched her so deeply not only in an academic sense, but also a humanistic one as well. They spent two decades together and formed a special and unique bond. At the end I asked myself if Alex touched Irene more deeply as a scientist or a woman. In my mind there was no doubt of the answer.

As a grey owner, I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Irene's work with Alex. Although I do not engage in formal training with my boy (he's already too smart for me) I found her methods very interesting and loved reading Alex's story.

This Book was AMAZING! It was enlightening and inspirational. It make man kind realize there is more than our self centered views that we are the only intelligent forms on earth. We have so much more to learn from these animals. We need to respect and share the world with them. Thank you ALEX for touching our lives. Thank you Irene for sharing your ALEX and believing in him.

I am only half way through Alex and Me but am really enjoying it. I got my Grey when she was 67 days old and she is now 34! She has a great vocabulary and the book is giving me some insight into her thinking as well as ideas of other ways and things to teach her. She is smart like Alex was and also has a mind of her own! She is amazing and it's almost scary to hear her respond to so many things that she sees or hears you say/do that are appropriate responses Some parts of the book are a bit technical for me, but I am still enjoying it and would recommend it to any bird lover. A friend who has never had a bird read Alex and Me and thought it was very interesting and told me about the book which of course, I had to immediately order!

JUST WHAT I EXPECTED

Easy peasy...

piano teacher here, this is lovely, with the best jazz standards! You will love it.Its not as easy as you might think....its probably intermediate....3 years in to piano?

Even though I had studied music for a few years when I was young and can read sheet music, I like seeing easy to play piano solos like this. I know the tones of Beyond the Sea and Fly Me to the Moon. I also know many of the other songs, which I sang when I was a young teenager. Now that I am in my late 60's, I appreciate this music even more. I love to heard the piano players on the Cruise ships while sailing out to sea. It is even more of a thrill to hear your own music played with your very own hands. We gave away our upright Baldwin piano to the Salvation Army because it was slightly out of tone and very heavy. We replaced it with a lighter weight Roland F-120 Digital Grand Piano. It sounds great and is easy to play. My wife wanted easy to play music and I agreed with her that it would be nice to play right away then to wait to learn and understand the complex advanced arrangements. She wanted easy tremble and left hand cleft. Also, she wanted more than just chords for the left hand. This sheet music has more than just chords for the left hand. Also, the right hand tremble stay fairly close to the melody if you where to sing the lyrics along with it with some slight improvisations to enrich the tonal quality and interest.I gave this a 5 Star because it is easy to play and sounds good even if you play it slow. You can change up the rhythm. We enjoyed playing it from the start and will have many hours playing them.

One of my Top Ten favorite books. I re-read it every couple of years because it's jammed full of fascinating material. The material is scientific and informative, but written so well that it's never a tiresome read. In the last few years I've gotten away from giving wine or liquor as presents, and turned to giving books instead. (I'm old, as are many of my friends.) This one gets consistently great reviews.

I bought this copy for my grandson. It is a classic and beautifully written. Bryson takes complex scientific concepts and makes them easily accessible. I and my friends are big Bryson fans.

My book club accidentally put the "really" in the title of the book they meant to choose, the adult version, "A Short History of Nearly Everything." I thoroughly enjoyed the young people's version. I learned a lot and re-learned things I'd forgotten from years-ago science classes. Plan to pass this along to my grandson. The book's two-page chapters make it perfect for a quick bedtime lesson or science report.

He reads a spread and then hits the internet to research some key idea that has caught his fancy. He's been able to use some of the things he's learned in the book to connect to other content areas, too. For example, he commented that Greenland would probably be warmer if the Atlantic Ocean's salinity wasn't so high (He was thorough in his explanation, but it was quite involved for the purposes of this review).I would highly recommend the book. It's got high-level concepts written in the perfect language for middle-schoolers to grasp.

Actually I got this book for my little 8 year old niece who is a history 'buff". She loved it. She even took this book to school for show and tell.

I bought an earlier version of this book for my Dad when he was still with us. He loved it and I often perused it when visiting. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Get it - you'll be happy you did!

I hated school and studying as a kid. I read the adult version of this book and was amazed how much i learned from a very well presented version of the sciences. Bryson has such an inviting style of presentation he keeps you going.I bought 3 copies for my grandchildren and they all are enjoying it now.I Highly recommend this ineresting and very educational book.

I had hoped to give this book to an older child, but when I received it found that it was not quite as mature as I had hoped. That said, it makes a wonderful gift for a curious child who is interested in the natural world and has many questions that a parent can't always answer. The book is approachable and understandable no matter how "difficult" the question. A good place to start discussions with your child.

Kevin Trudeau has done it again with delivering an excellent Free Money "They" Don't Want You to Know About book packed with valuable information. "Free Money 'They' Don't Want You to Know About" gives the reader in plain English a great research tool with superb instructions that are easy to follow. My husband and I enjoyed reading this book. We are very appreciative of all the books Kevin Trudeau has written for the knowledge he shares in each of his works enhances a person's life.Highly recommend reading this book. One does not know if they qualify for free money until one knows where to find it and how to apply! Thank you Mr. Trudeau for writing this book. Thank you Amazon for having it in your online store.

I seen the infomercial and was really exited but the book turned out to be more of the commercial. In the book, he told a lot about society and joked around but there wasn't a lot of real information on how to get money. A lot of facts with a small amount of useful information. A few web addresses or phone numbers scattered here or there. The first bit of info, a web address, wasn't until page 27...A lot of common since things too. When you need money, of COURSE you are going to check old savings bonds, you would probably NEVER forget money in an 'old' bank account and taxes season is one of the biggest events of the year. SOMEBODY is going to ask you if you filed your taxes yet, so it's kind of hard to forget about tax money.Also, everybody already knows about the Pell Grant and everybody knows about buying foreclosure houses for next to nothing, fixing them up and then selling them for a profit. Everybody knows about eBay and everybody knows about craigslist. Of COURSE you would sell your car if you really needed the money and people sell their various collections every day. That is what Pawn Stars is all about...Simply not enough information. Free money they don't want you to know about? Seems like Kevin doesn't want us to know about it either. LOL.

I spent my good money to get this book and read it. I followed his advice on finding lost or forgotten property that I can claim. Found out my mom years ago, had some stock and the dividens are now sitting in the treasury dept. in the state of NJ. Following his advice I contacted them. They in turn sent me back a form which was to be noterized and information on what they needed to release the money. According to what I read, there is no way I could provide the information the state is requesting. I can produce a death certificate but that's about it. They wanted letters of administration or letters of Testamentary dated within the one year of the present date or next of kin etc etc etc...So it looks like the money will stay with the state because I have tried to contact them to define what ever the hell they're talking about. In the book he gives you a website to claim lost property. Try it. You'll get no where because he doesn't mention the hassle the state or any other agency will put you through..This book is a waste and this guy should be put in jail. What a con artist.

Kevin Trudeau scores again with this wonderful book! During these hard times, it is invaluable to find a resource like this when many of us find ourselves rather financially desperate. As usual, Trudeau has done incredible research and offers stunning ideas for supplementing family incomes through government grants and giveaways. Anyone who reads this will be shocked to learn how much money is available and how fantastically easy it is to get. By simply filling out a one page form, anyone can qualify for many programs that distribute thousand of dollars with hardly any questions asked other than name and address. Trudeau points out that most of these funds are tax free and thus are actually "free money" as the title states. The Department of Commerce, for instance, issues thousands of checks each year, totalling nearly a billion dollars, to anyone interested in starting an interstate trucking business. The best part: only a brief business plan outline is required, no actual business need ever be started, and the money is yours to keep when the endeavor "fails." While this might appear to border on being dishonest, Trudeau demonstrates how the government rarely investigates and is anxious to move money out the door so future allocations can be justified. After all, it's our money anyway and we have a right to our share. Applications seldom require proof of citizenship and post office boxes are accepted as addresses of record. I am only now starting to submit the small amount of paperwork needed to several federal agencies but should receive checks from some of the "easier" programs quite soon. Trudeau has discovered the Department of Agriculture to be another luscious source of money by applying for the many crop support initiatives as well as the supplementals paid to NOT engage in the production or processing of price supported goods. This is exciting stuff and Trudeau knows it inside out, having made a fortune this way himself. I will certainly post updates as some of the larger checks arrive and I build momentum with this astonishing book's guidance. For now, it is clear from just reading some of the ideas enumerated that it is foolish for us to ignore the possibilities for real wealth Kevin Trudeau presents and to turn our backs on these riches. I am very, very excited about the future now, something I certainly couldn't say a month ago.Important Update! 10/25/2013: I just received a letter from the Department of Justice that two of my applications are under investigation and that they are considering action in the near future! This is certainly exciting news and shows clearly that the government takes applications for subsidies for interstate trucking seriously and it is only a matter of time that the action promised is taken and a check will be received. I am truly amazed that Trudeau's guidance is so spot-on and that the Justice Department is about to recommend to the Department of Commerce that my subsidy be approved! The letter I hold in my hand at this moment is signed by an Assistant U.S. Attorney, someone who probably looks over the paperwork for the subsidy and forwards directives to the people at Commerce. If this isn't proof that Trudeau knows what he's doing, nothing will convince the nay sayers who dismiss him and miss out on an incredible cash trove!
