My fiancee loved it. She was so excited when she opened the pkg. Even moreso b/c it was autographed by the author.

I’ve got to say it: The ‘Introduction’ of this book was written in 2007 by the current head of Dior at that time, the Brit, John Galliano before he was removed from his position for disgracing the House of Dior at a restaurant, letting off a litany of racist remarks against some the patrons.That tidbit aside, Galliano, as Head of Dior, stressed that the importance of his job at Dior was to carry forward with Dior’s concept of the post WWII feeling of having relief from war-time restriction, then post-war expansion, with luxuriously well-made couture clothing as a ‘New Look’. As its current head then, Galliano had studied the past ‘New Look’ collections from Dior, himself, in Dior’s archives, through those of Dior’s successive Heads and came up with his own ideas about what his version of the House of Dior ‘New Look’ haute couture should be when he took over the baton.Dior started his House by understanding that clothes could hide what needed to be hidden – while being meticulously made to fit each client, while making them look good. Case in point, Dior even made ‘Plain-Jane’ American Wallis Simpson, who married into the House of Windsor, look good!The ‘Preface’ of the book chronicles how the writer, Marie-France Pochna, a French law graduate and now a writer came to write about Dior, a person that she hadn’t ever met. Buy the book to read her entire story about how the writing of this book came about.In Chapter 2, the title is a quote by Andre Gide: “Les Enfants terribles”, Les Parents, terribles”. The rough translation into English is: “Family! I hate you!” Most people are grateful to their parents/ families for raising them right, giving them love and encouragement, so that they can flourish as they grow up. In Dior’s case, he didn’t see that he had this. Read the book to see how he flourished in France without the safety net of his family.In Dior’s case, there were 2 opposing poles pulling and pushing apart in Dior’s life, but these forces worked in such a way as to not destroy him. Dior somehow worked with these opposing energies to catapult himself forward - first in France and then in New York - with a wealthy clientele and then, internationally.Read this book and note how Dior named his gowns and what inspired him to create them.Look at his sketches, and the famous people who wore his haute couture. Look especially on page 108 to see his “famous ‘Bar’ suit, the essence of the New Look, February 12, 1947”. This was post-war, a time of happiness and expansion, and the date shows that it was 2 days before Valentine’s Day – just what wealthy female patrons wanted their wealthy menfolk to purchase for them! With the availability of free online recipes, it's sometimes hard to justify the purchase of a cookbook. I can honestly say this cookbook has been so great that I'd buy it again, despite the plethora of recipes on the web that don't cost a cent! Not only are the recipes healthy and complex tasting, but they use affordable ingredients.

Great book! I've always loved risotto, but could never make it well. This book showed me how to make perfect risotto very easily.

Ok I gave this book to my daughter, along with a rice cooker, for Christmas. After she opened her present, next thing I see is my other daughter, my daughter in-law were going through the book and wanting to borrower it. I appears to have a lot of great recipes ....

There are some very tasty recipes in here, but the instructions for using the rice cooker as an all-in-one don't exactly work. I have a fuzzy logic machine, and the quick cook function works great for sauteeing - but then the recipe says to turn it off and start a regular rice cooking cycle. The machine will not restart until it is cooled down to almost cold! So I end up either doing the sautee step on the stove, or doing it with the quick cook function and then pouring the recipe into another pot on the stove. Both defeat the purpose of the book, which is to cook everything in the cooker! Any help out there?

Have only fixed two meals so far, but both were very tasty and worked perfectly for the rice cooker we bought. Got the kindle version downloaded to our iPad, so just sit it up on the counter and follow the directions. Very handy. Some ingredients are not easy to find, but won't keep us from hunting them down and trying them.

I just bought my first fuzzy logic rice cooker, and wanted some recipes beyond the manual. When I bought this cookbook there were no reviews, but when I saw it was by Diane Phillips I knew I could trust it - I have her "Perfect Party Food" and "You've Got it Made" cookbooks, and they have never let me down.This cookbook has a variety of recipes, not just for white rice, but for brown rice, wild rice, bulgar, farro, quinoa, barley, grits, polenta, oattmeal and dried beans. There are lots of yummy recipes for using the "mixed" cycle on your rice cooker, most of which can be done start to finish in the cooker.There are instructions for both fuzzy logic and on/off machines in most of the recipes.

I have made a couple of the recipes so far and have had fairly good results. I have noticed one issue using her methods with a fuzzy-logic machine. Often your are instructed to precook the ingredients on the quick-cook or regular cycle and then the instructions say to reset to the regular cycle. When I do this, my machine has a temperature sensor which gives me an error code and I have to take the pot out and wait about 10 minutes for it too cool off enough to reset the cycle. Also, when restarting on the regular cycle, I think that the first stage of that cycle is a soak. During that time the rice is really not cooking/heating and the times take longer than she says. If you have the option, I would reset to the quick-cook cycle so the cooking/heating starts immediately.

There are lot of good recipes in the book and we have tried many of them.
