About the Author

Joel Meyerowitz is a photographer best known for his large-format color work published in Cape Light and several other books. He began his career as a street photographer and is the co-author of Bystander: A History of Street Photography. His photographs have been shown worldwide, including exhibits at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and the Art Institute of Chicago. When I told a photographer friend that to me, there is something about the Cape, especially the outer section, that I find magical without being able to pinpoint exactly why I felt this way. He recommended buying Cape Light, and I got a paperback copy. I do not know how the reproductions compare to the originals, but to me at least, they are good enough to explain why this book is so revered by photographers. To amateurs like me, it demonstrates how light can transform the most mundane object into something special and encourages us to start seeing the world with JM's eyes. I also recommend it to all who cannot resist the itch to oversaturate their digital pictures during post-processing--the 'dreamy' quality one reviewer speaks of should not be looked down upon, and you do not get it with colors that scream at you! For non-photographers who love the Cape and are bored with standard picture-postcard views, it's a wonderful gift.

This book order originaly issued in the 1970s. Lovely photographs. I picked my favorites and framed them all together and threw away the rest of the book. Dreamy photographs, no analytic reason to buy it!

It was smaller than I expected. I had calendars with these pictures, and the images in this book are so small as to lose the impact of these photographs.

Ansel Adams said that this book was his favorite book of color photographs (the reason I bought it, long ago). Meyerowitz's use of little contrast, incomparible colors, and unusual subject matter makes this a must MEMORIZE book for all serious photographers. If you don't go nuts over his photographs, you don't like photography as much as you thought you did.......john in texas

I'm so glad I bought this, they are getting harder and harder to find (I keep giving mine away - I'm keeping this one).

I bought this book just before the publication of the big Meyerowitz Retrospective that pushed his book prices through the stratosphere. Mine is a used copy with sprung covers. These are photographs of Cape Cod from fifty years ago and are right on the button, as in Right On. I was there and these photographs took me right back to there. One caveat: the photographs are published using older techniques and are matte. It gives them a dreamy quality that suits the subject matter but can be off-putting for the eye used to digital clarity

Tops in every respect

I've bought this book as it's one of the classic color photography books. Pictures are sensational, but this edition is "too cheap", not just because of the paperback, but because images don't have space enough to show themselves. Moreover the print quality is really bad. I suggest you to spend some more money and by a "decent" edition of this great book.Raúl[...]

While reading this book, I found myself mesmerized by the picture that the author painted in my mind about his experiences! Although I would have loved to see pictures throughout or a section dedicated to the places he describes, the pictures weren't needed. And, as the author points out, would have taken him out of the present moment anyway from being in communion with nature. :)My favorite type of vacation is one out in nature where I am camping, hiking, & hot springing & when I read his descriptive reflections it makes want to do the solo journeys I used to take when I want to college. I am craving the silence, the stillness & the surrender that being alone in nature can bring. The quieting of the mind & the clarity of thought & purpose that comes with taking time away to unplug.I am hoping this author decides someday to lead guided journeys that start in a group setting, disperse to their very own solo journeys, & come back afterward to connect & reflect on their experiences. :)So here's the deal... if you love nature, it's just simply healing for you, OR you've never stepped a foot outside in your life this book will remind you of your true authentic nature & why it's so important to reconnect with yourself in nature OFTEN.It might also remind you to find gratitude for this connection by protecting the beautiful wilderness places that have healed, nourished & uplifted you. :)

Years ago, I was introduced to Ed Abbey's works and as an avid backpacker, primarily of East Coast areas, I was overwhelmingly drawn to Abbey-country.I ended up on a solo trip to Arches & was eventually able to share a second trip to the area with my wife Susan. Never so blown away in my life ... able to experience Zion, Canyon Lands, Bryce Canyon, Capital Reef ... well, you get the picture.So, just recently saw an ad for your book, and was compelled to check it out from the sample; as a Tao/Buddhist practitioner and teacher of such ... your experiences and writing deeply resonates with me. I truly can sense your sincere compassion and love for our precious wilderness as well as living it deeply within the bowels of your soul.At 71 now, and with some rotator cuff & neck deterioration, I'm unable to lug my pack any longer, but still hitting the trails for day-trips & until they send me up the chimney, forever loving this universe of ours.Keep it up Scott ... living vicariously through the efforts, writings and ramblings of realized soul mates.

I humbly bow and recognize the author's realization through wild nature! These were surprising tales told well -journeying into lands close by that I may never visit, but deserve my attention and protection where I can offer it. Being in a tent in the middle of nowhere alone at night petrifies me- this was part of the reason i loved the book so much, I got to peer into this world where the author finds love and I often find fear. But I understand the precious rarity of being human and existing there, and that in the untamed wilderness there is a powerful entry point into one's unknowable self. Maybe i will get out there someday with an experienced friend. i strongly recommend this book to anyone who has had a taste of the vast silence we are, or those who seek it, or if you just want a peek into untamed lands.

Scott Stillman writes about his wilderness travels in this book, mostly writing in stream-of-consciousness form, rambling on about his inner thoughts on wilderness and nature. A lot of this feels like armchair philosophy written on the back of wrinkled napkins or gasoline receipts. What he does most in this book is take to the thru-hiker mentality of talking arrogantly about the virtues of not having a job and being free of the trappings of modern society, and he tries to make you, the reader, feel bad for earning a living while providing for your family. Stillman seems to think he is the only person on earth who loves nature because he’s in it, while the rest of us are soullessly slaving away in a life we all hate. This guy will never be responsible enough to even know what it’s like to raise a family. He also takes pot shots at National Parks and people who vacation at them. He seems to want everyone on earth to sell their homes and go hiking but he doesn’t want to see you out there, he wants the whole planet for himself. Mr. Stillman, just because we have jobs and have to work hard to pay mortgages and buy groceries to feed our children does NOT mean we don’t love nature as much as you!!!

Would he go on a journey like this? I would like to think so.Mr. Stillman’s writing style is poetic and prose wrapped around his determination and accomplishment.I think this is a great book for anyone who loves our country and it’s natural beauty. His writing brilliantly reminds us that we are all part of something bigger than ourselves.My suggestion is to read it before going on your own adventures!

You will keep reading till the end and then wish there was more.Traveling through the authors thoughts in a sea of starry skies and endless echoes, cavernous canyons and empty deserts, you can't help but share his wonder. You will imagine Scott's eyes gleaming with the endless untouched possibilities that nature affords. You will feel, as I have, the pull of an unnoticed attraction to the unknown, the strong desire to leave it all behind.His writing is joyful and optimistic, although at times a bit unnecessarily overly so. That in fact is the ONLY criticism I have of this necessary screed on the power of nature over technology, that it's too happy. I like a bit more cynicism and sarcasm with my adventures.This, along with Sean and David's Long Journey and ANYTHING by Bill Bryson, should be required reading for any and all who long to explore. You will imagine the endless possibilities and opportunities that the world provides and hopefully push the boundaries of your own existence a bit (or a lot) further.

I've been waiting for this book since last summer, and I can't believe it's finally here. The Samurai Pizza Cats Official Fanbook!The first thing I noticed was the book's size. It's a bit larger than I thought it was, which is great. A good size for showcasing all of the artwork inside. Speaking of which, the art is amazing. All bright, colorful, and quirky. Just as one would expect from a weird show like this. There's also character profiles and notes about their designs, and not just main characters. Some of the minor ones are in there too, which is nice. Also included are episode recaps and interviews with the cast and crew.Just something to note: This is a translation of the Kyatto Ninden Teyandee Fanbook. As such, it only covers the Japanese original series, not the Saban version. So, if you were expecting this book to detail the production of the latter, you may be disappointed. Seeing "Yattarou", "Sukashii", and "Pururun" instead of "Speedy", Guido", and "Polly" might throw some fans off too. That said, I don't think it should deter anyone from picking it up. It's an awesome art/fanbook, and I highly recommend it to any Pizza Cats fan.

I am amazed by his psychological awareness & ability to express his insights clearly. Furthermore, he realized what most of us don't: Advanced technologies advance entropy. As it stands, mankind is a biological outbreak population-- & those never end well. We have exhibited a fabulous capacity both for enriching & destroying life. We stand at the precipice of unimaginable fulfillment or the Abyss. It is our choice to make, & we ignore Dr. Kaczynski at our own peril. Are we responsible enough to determine what enough is?

As someone who grew up surrounded by technology and has specialized in it as a career, this book changed the way I see our modern world. I've read it many times and have purchased copies for friends and family. If you present the book to them as something interesting and unique that won't take a terribly long time to read, later on you can focus on the absolute enigma of the character of Ted Kaczynski himself.If you've already ready Industrial Society and its Future, this book is worth purchasing for the huge amount of letters and further additions from Ted on this subject that he wrote well after the manifesto was published. Worth every cent.

Regardless what you think of the man and if he was right or wrong, he was incredibly intelligent and nigh-prophetic of what was to come in the current future especially regarding liberal behavior on the media, through the internet, and through politics. I would suggest this book to absolutely anyone of any walk of life, it is something that needs to be gotten out as far and wide as possible.It's funny how many of the comments on these products act as if they do not condemn Ted Kaczynski they'll be treated much the same as him, which should lead any intelligent person to ask themselves if that doesn't lend credit to what he has to say.

Very interesting! Like many have stated I was intrigued by this book and Mr Kaczynski’s ideas, but did not wish to support him financially. I was pleased to find out that in the introduction it is confirmed that “not one dime of profit” goes to Mr. Kaczynski, thanks to the Son of Sam law.

Seriously my favorite book of all time.While technology claims to be the solution to all of our problems, it is in fact the cause of all of our problems.Amazing book.If you like stuff like this also check out Mark Boyle's Drinking Molotov Cocktails with Gandhi, Cynics by William Desmond, ReWild Yourself (online for free) by Daniel Vitalis and the Max Igan podcast.

I feel like I've probably been put on a list of some kind, for purchasing this book. He has a lot of interesting ideas, but a lot of his philosophies have been done before in the past. It's still interesting reading.

Some interesting thoughts in this book, but notwithstanding that he's a mathematical genius, it's mostly fairly unoriginal. The collected writings of Jacques Ellul, which Kaczynski quotes extensively, are more thought provoking and expansive. Even agreeing with Kaczynski's overall premise about the inexorable march of technology toward dominance and its dehumanizing effects, his strategies in how to alter its direction are short-sighted and leave much to question.

When this came in the mail today I had not anticipated the sheer size and weight of the book - it is Very heavy for a book may I warn you. I couldn't help but fan over it's pristine cover - and this was just the magnetic shell - the book itself was just stunning. (the product picture depicts the orange slip-on tracer cover as a solid color but you can actually see through the material.)It's definitely a worthy buy for it's price, and even more if you love the game and the art. It contains a lot of concepts, sketches and descriptions of all aspects of the design that went behind this game including skins, maps, ability effects, weapons, and more. As an art student striving to go into the field of character/game design myself, I find the process of developing an idea from the initial sketch to the final confirmed design is really eye opening and interesting. It inspires me to get in more practice and up my skill level. c:I would give the product quality a 4.5 if I could. I half expected the prints to be bigger, but they've got the same dimensions as the book. Was a little more disappointed when they were photos you could find online, but it doesn't matter much.The back cover of the book had a few light scrapes, and the short ends of the magnetic cover box don't fit perfectly under the magnetic cover. (it's a bit Tilted and the magnetic cover-box feels a bit fragile.) The slightly angled box sides don't hinder any storing or placement anywhere, i'm just picky with quality. It's not too noticeable unless you stare at it. I'd recommend setting it down on it's flat side so the weight of the book and the prints inside don't misshape the box any further.All in all, this is probably one of my favorite things I own now.Can't wait to read it over a few dozen times when I get the chance!

IT ARRIVED!!It’s about an inch thick, weighing at around 8 pounds total. The acetate tracer slipcover looks great and the clamshell box is massive, simple, yet beautiful. The prints are thick with a nice gloss to them. They have been carefully placed in nice and sturdy portfolios with a fabric lining the portfolio to keep the print in mint condition. I half-expected them to come signed but I know better than that. Browsed through the book a little bit and there's tons of content, ranging from commentary, to earlier concept art, to skins—it's terrific.My camera does this no justice but it looks absolutely amazing and I love it! The team did a superb job putting this together. If you're a fan, the limited edition is definitely worth every penny. This art book is a must-have for Overwatch collectors!

A gorgeous art book, incredibly impressed with the packaging and prints, but was really bummed to find this random piece of tape on page 193 that left the page completely ruined. It has to be an issue from the manufacturer, as it was sealed and boxed separately from the Amazon packaging. For a $100 limited edition art book, they should have better quality control. 5 stars for content and overall presentation, 3 stars for quality control, average of 4 stars for me.

I forgot that I had pre-ordered this a few months prior and it was a nice surprise on my doorstep last night.The product is wonderful. Definitely a great book if you are a fan of Overwatch, Blizzard, or Video game style art. Some of the concept art is crazy to see. The art prints that are included are also a great addition.I really do like the book and will go back and visit it often. I would be giving this a five star review if it was not for the case/cover box being damaged. It seems like the book could be too heavy for the corners of the box. Though it is not a detriment to the book, it is the kind of thing I would have thought could have been seen before release.

This is 368 pages of full color images. Mmm..that freshly opened new book smell. Great art of book that gives you the origin of each character and its iteration phase images. Just a great beefy book. This sucker is heavy! The deluxe edition is really cool because they give you these hard surfaced folders with the Overwatch logo on them, that have exclusive prints in them. I pre-ordered this over the summer and I am glad it finaly got here.

Absolutely gorgeous and full of interesting information. All the bonus stuff is amazing too. If you love Overwatch and are a collector I definitely recommend buying this.

The clamshell box doesn't stay together as well as I would have liked, and there were some scratches on it out of the package. The art book itself is beautiful, and I've been looking through it since I got it today. Love the portfolio prints, and the slipcover is nice even if it's hard to put the book back into it. Some of the concept art for the heroes kind of make me wish they made it to the final game, but you can really tell how much love was put into everyone's designs.

This book shows more than the beautiful artwork of Overwatch. It goes into full detail about each character, map, and even origin stories of some classic characters. You’ll regret not getting this book if you’re interested in what makes Overwatch, Overwatch. Also, the limited edition is worth it because the tracer sleeve gives the book a nice touch. 10/10
