This problem occurs in elderly persons rarely enough that many physicians dont even know about it. If your elderly parent is hearing things like "songs that keep playing over and over in their head.. but nobody else hears it" then this book can help you... er.. them. This symptom can be very debilitating to the elderly person because they don't know if they are hearing GHOSTS or DEMONS... or if they are going CRAZY! When it is explained in the book as an occurance in elderly persons, it helps them calm down and become less stressed. It also lists various drugs and other things that make the problem worse or other suggestions to help the problem minimize. My mother was hearing old fight-songs from world war 2 and also church hymnals from 50 years ago. After reading this book, I suggested she get a set of drums or other instrument and "play along" with the music! This book is for the person interested in helping someone with this syndrome called "musical ear syndrome"... not for people wanting to do GHOST HUNTING or such silly things.
My 88 year old mother who is cognitively intact and really sharp was terrified she was losing her mind when she heard singing. She has a hearing impairment and I tried to explain what might be happening... I found this book and sent it to her... She read it cover to cover and found great relief. We were able to have a discussion and she now understands what is happening and deals with it much easier....
Do you hear music when there's no one there? It has a scientific name, this condition, but I like "Musical Ear Syndrome" better. There's so little information about MES that a book like this is a big help. It gives a list of suggestions for alleviating the annoyance of music every waking moment and insight into some causes of it. Too many personal experience anecdotes for me, but some people may appreciate the comfort it brings when you know other people are dealing good-naturedly with the same darn thing.
This book is really informative!! I bought it for my mom who has some hearing loss and started hearing odd sounds in her home. The sounds were scaring her, the book helped her understand the cause of what she thought she was hearing.
Useless....would never buy again. Save your money. The first book, Take Control of Your Tennitus has more info on this Debilitating condition.
I was afraid to tell my Doctor about the sounds I hear. It was such a blessing to find this book. I am passing it on to my friend who is also hard of hearing.
This book didn't give any new information I hadn't already read on the Internet. Wish I hadn't spent the money on it.
