MarÃa (Spanish Edition) is in Spanish as one might expect. Read it in Spanish - no translation can do justice to the beautiful language. For instance alliteration almost never translates well and loses the sounds from any language into another. And the way things are expressed has its own beauty that most often does not transfer.Sure you will have to look up many words. It will do your Spanish fluency good. It took Jorge Isaacs three years to write it, but it won't take you quite that long to read it. I hope.
DO NOT BUY the print-on-demand (fact undisclosed) book whose cover has a drawing of a young women's face with three white flowers in her hair. This book looks like it has been automatically translated - word for word from the Spanish, many phrases and paragraphs just do not make any sense in English. See additional comment below regarding fraudulent aspect: it is NOT the advertised 1890 translation of Rollo Ogden, easily checked against a genuine edition. Amazon should NOT sell such fraudulent books. I have asked for (and received) a refund.
It’s a good book about Maria if you like to hear her story and find out more of her personal life. I enjoyed it. It shed some light on her personality and the family dynamics.
This is a wonderful book. So well written, I could hardly put it down.
After seeing the movie "Sound of Music" many years ago, I was interested in reading her story. I would recommend this to others who may be interested in her life.
