If you are interested in Temple Grandin, an amazing spokeswoman for folks struggling with autism or Asperger's, this book provides a brief summary of Grandin's life as an autistic person, her achievements, and where she is today as an older adult. The volume breaks down into roughly three sections: Temple's early life and achievements; a midsection of the use of various animals to treat autism, each chapter devoted to one specific animal, such of pigs, horses, dogs, cats, and rabbits; and a summary of Temple in her later years and more currently. I found the information absolutely fascinating, and I learned a lot from it. The organization of the book was less than enthralling, but I am so curious about how Temple overcame her severe limitations she experienced in her childhood that I couldn't stop reading. Her life achievements are truly incredible. Worth my time, for sure, to read the book, and it added new details beyond the HBO movie of some years back.
Well written book about the amazing (truly that is the word to describe her) Temple Grandin. The author never creates the narrative of a person with a disability rather just a very smart person who has figured out how to cope and manage whatever obstacles she has encountered. Thank you for sharing further insight into this remarkable woman. Read this to learn about her and about the work she has done and is continuing to accomplish.
While not exactly a biography of Temple Grandin, it does go over her life in great detail. It also puts out a lot of good information about autism in general and Asperger Syndrome, too. I found her insights on how animals perceive the world to be fascinating.
Temple provides such an important view on the world and on the lives of animals and people. Her voice definitely provides a voice to the voiceless, and a view of the world that we seldom think about
As a special education teacher, and grandmother of a child on the spectrum, I want to learn as much as I can about autism. After watching the movie about Ms. Grandin, I knew I wanted more information from her perspective.
Wonderful, true story of an amazing woman.
There were many insights into autism. And they were explained in a way that was understandable. Temple Grandin is most intriguing individual. I am particularly impressed with the work she does in the meat industry.
I liked this book with the author using Temple Grandin's own words to describe herself. I would recommend this book to all people who are autistic, parents of children that are autistic, and all educators.
